How It Works

1

Population Modeling

Build digital clone profiles representing diverse demographic and cognitive segments of a target society.

2

Question / Topic

Input a policy question, social topic, or scenario to simulate — e.g. transport reform, public sentiment, or governance issues.

3

Simulation

Run interactive simulations across the population of clones, capturing diverse opinions and reasoning styles.

4

Insight Report

Aggregate responses into sentiment trends, opinion distributions, and downloadable simulation reports.

Overview

Bauhinia Pulse is a digital society research platform from the Crypto-Fintech Lab at HKUST. It applies advanced AI and data science methods to simulate and analyze social phenomena and human behavioral patterns in the digital age, providing a scalable experimental platform for understanding complex digital society.

The project bridges artificial intelligence, sociology, computer science, and data science to construct a new paradigm for social research in the digital era — letting researchers, policymakers, and the public explore how a population might respond to a question before any real-world survey or vote takes place.

Key Features

  • Interactive simulation platform — pose a question and watch a population of digital clones respond
  • Social sentiment analysis — real-time monitoring and analysis of public opinion dynamics, identifying trending topics and emotional trends
  • Digital society research — interdisciplinary methods to explore complex phenomena in digital society
  • Multilingual support — English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and more
  • Downloadable simulation reports — exportable PDFs summarizing results
  • Use Cases

  • Policy makers can preview public sentiment on proposed reforms before launch
  • Social researchers can study propagation patterns, opinion formation, and the impact of AI on social structure
  • Decision makers can ground governance, policy, and business decisions in simulated public reaction
  • Research Themes

  • Information propagation patterns in digital society
  • Social inequality in the age of artificial intelligence
  • The impact of social media on public opinion formation
